Brough on Humber to give it its full title is thought to been the Roman settlement of Petuaria, mentioned by an ancient writer Ptolemy and was the tribal centre of the Parisi.  The Parisi were the local tribe who lived in East Yorkshire in the Roman period.

It now forms part of the villages/town of Elloughton and Brough, and recognised as Elloughton cum Brough. Although the helmet in our logo, devised many years ago by the Parish Council is somewhat inaccurate in terms of Roman headgear, it reflects continued pride in our ancient heritage.

 

Petuaria ReVisited was formed when the Chair, Cllr Martin Credland, and Vice chair at the time Cllr Sue Duckles during a conversation and the project evolved.

The ethos of the project was to be everything is for the community, to raise awareness educate and inform them about their rich heritage from the Roman era.  Every activity the project did for the community would be free, whenever possibe.
