As the end of the year approaches it’s time to look back on the achievements of 2025 and our aspirations for 2026.
Our first big achievment was the publication of our first booklet “ReDiscovering Roman Brough”. it was produved by Peter Halkon with the help of James Lyall and Ian Ratcliffe. it has been very popular and has almost sold out of copies. We hope to release an updated version in the near future. Available copies can still be bought here

2025 saw another Roman festival on the Burrs for the community to enjoy. Every year we’re trying to do something a little bit different this year we had a horse display performed by Mark Fox and the Autonomous Reenactors Collective.
New things like this create a little bit of worry especially when it comes to having horses on the Burrs performing. The display was enjoyed by those who watched it and should no signs of any danger to those who came.
The week after the festival the archaeological dig on the Burrs took place. This year we pushed the boundaries when we extended it to three weeks so that more people could take part with less per day so we could finish the excavation. This was obviously the plan but with all best planned things it ended up different to expected with over thirty people a day on some days and a conundrum of theories as to what actually happened on the site. A community meeting will take place to share our findings.
The dig ran fantastically due to the brilliant planning from Peter, James and Colin with the help of the trench supervisors.
For 2026 we hope to delve deeper into the history of the port of Petuaria, known as our Maritime Project, as we follow up on the GPR results along Cave Rd.
This will be a much smaller team event if it goes ahead and places will be very limited due to its nature. Rest assured the community will be at its heart as always.
